What is an initial term membership?

An Initial Term membership involves you committing to a period that is longer than the subscription period for which you have paid.  For example, you may commit to an initial term of 12 months but still pay for that membership weekly.

In return for your commitment to keep paying us for that Initial Term, we typically offer a lower price which is locked in for the Initial Term for which you have committed.

If you do cancel before the end of the Initial Term, you must pay us compensation for that early cancellation (Early Cancellation Compensation Fee).

How do I pay for my membership?

We offer two payment methods:

·         automated payments from your bank account OR

·         automated payments from your credit or debit card

Payments from your bank account are done through a NZ company called Akahu (part-owned by Westpac).  There are no charges for using this payment method, i.e., no surcharge or add-on cost.

Payments from your credit or debit card are done through Stripe, an Irish-American multi-national.  There are costs to using Stripe, and we pass these costs on to you directly (we don’t charge anything extra for ourselves).  Stripe charges 30 cents per transaction PLUS 2.7% of the total transaction value.

What’s the difference between joining online versus joining on the app?

Joining on-line is done on your desktop, laptop or tablet.  Joining on the app is done on your mobile phone.

If you visit our website on a desktop, laptop or tablet, you will see the option of joining on-line (on the internet or web).

If you join on-line, this means you enter your details, select your membership options and setup and make your first payment (either Akahu for bank account or Stripe for card payments) on that device.  After you have completed your membership sign-up, you will then see instructions and links to download the app so that you can sign in and receive and use your digital key.  Your phone becomes your key to get you into the gym, using tap-to-unlock functionality embedded in our app.  That’s not something you can do with your desktop computer (you’d need a very long extension lead!)!

If you join on the app it means you do everything on your smart phone – you sign-up, you select your membership options, you make your payment and you received the digital key on your phone.

If you join on-line, it means there are two steps to the process – most of it on your desktop, with only the last bit on your mobile phone to sign back in to your membership and obtain your key.

Once you have joined, either way, mobile or web, you will manage your ongoing membership on your phone – things like pausing your membership, changing payment days or dates.

Why is there an online sign-up option, if I have to download an app in the end anyway?

We wanted to give people options, so we’ve simply made two ways to join the gym.  Some people may do internet banking on their home computer, but not on their phones, and we wanted to enable them to be able to join the gym too, just the same as folk who do all of those things on their phones.  Either way is safe, and leads to the same outcome – you join the gym that puts you in-charge of your own membership!
